Privacy

Nothing leaves your Mac.

The whole policy fits on one screen, because there is almost nothing to say.

The app

Bytebud has no analytics, no account and no servers of its own. It reads CPU load, memory pressure, thermal state, battery level, free disk space and which apps use memory, CPU and power, all through public macOS APIs, and keeps the results on your Mac. Your creature's name, days and streaks, and up to a week of history for the report, live in local files in Application Support.

Files

Bytebud never reads the contents of any file. When you press Tidy or measure developer leftovers, it adds up folder sizes, and nothing else.

Network

Two requests, both to services you can see: a once-a-day license check to Dodo Payments (your license key and this Mac's name, nothing else), and a check for updates against bytebud.fyi, which you can turn off in Settings. Offline, the app keeps working for 14 days.

Local sharing

Off by default. If you turn it on, Bytebud writes a small status file on your Mac so the command-line tool and AI agents you run locally can read it. It's read-only and never sent anywhere.

Crash reports and feedback

Nothing is sent automatically. If Bytebud crashes, macOS saves a report on your Mac and Bytebud offers to email it; you see the email before it goes, and can turn the offer off in Settings. “Report a false alarm” works the same way: it drafts an email with the numbers behind the mood, which you can edit or discard.
